Phonics is a way of teaching children how to read and write. It helps children hear, identify and use different sounds that distinguish one word from another in the English language.
For phonics this term all children will receive tailored phonics sessions in small groups. Previously learnt phonemes, digraphs and trigraphs will be revisited on a regular basis. In school we will be encouraging the children to identify these as individual sounds and then also as sounds within words in all areas of their learning.
To support your child's phonics knowledge at home, they will be receiving a phonics pack as part of their homework. Please use this to support your child with segmenting and blending real and alien words. We will update these packs throughout the term. Please can these be returned to school on a Wednesday along with homework books.
Please find some links that you will find helpful to support your child's learning. We use these in class and the children really enjoy them, especially singing along to the Jolly Phonics songs!
